November 2008 Wrap-Up

Sunday, November 30th, 2008
It has been about 3 weeks since I started the $10 poker challenge and I was able to finish off November in good fashion.
Today I played 2 sessions in Cake Poker ($0.05/$0.10 game and a $0.10/$0.20 game) plus a cash game at full tilt ($0.05/$0.10) all at the same time. Prior to starting, I set my game plan and the goal was to execute my orders without deviation throughout the session. My marching orders today were tight formations and avoiding the urge to outgun the other guy. In other words, play tight, only get aggressive when I am in control AND have a hand to play with and do not call other players pre-flop pot raises unless I feel comfortable… Read More

First Big Blow

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008
It was bound to happen eventually. The big table was not friendly today and I ended up losing $20 on a $0.10/$0.20 game. I made one brutal call after I was already knocked down by a few river beats. This call took me from $12 down to $4.50. I knew in my gut I was beat but I still made the call. My emotions got the better of me this time. I must be more disciplined in the future. Back to basic training for me. For now I am back to the low limit $0.05/$0.10 games until I can rebuild my bankroll.
I also made an adjustment to the Challenge Overview page. I believe the information shown in the tables is sufficient enough to show my progress at… Read More

It’s All In The Charts

Friday, November 21st, 2008
Challenge Overview has been enhanced and now provides session details in chart format!
It took a little while to get it going but I think I got most of the kinks out now. Thanks goes out to the crew at Open Flash Charts for providing some great charting tools.
And now to fill up those charts !!! Read More

Dipping My Toe In Deeper.

Thursday, November 20th, 2008
The time has come for me to stand tall and step up to the next level. Of course I had a little apprehension because instead of bringing $10 to the table, I am now bringing in $20! That is a lot of my bankroll to risk on a single table but if I want to continue to progress in my challenge it needs to be done. Goal #1 is to crack a $100 with a starting point of $10. This can only be done effectively one way ... and that is to continue to move up in table limits.
Well after my warmup on a couple of $0.05/$0.10 tables on Cake Poker, I found a nice 6 man $0.10/$0.20 no limit table where every other player had less than $20... Perfect! Things… Read More

A taste of tournament play.

Sunday, November 16th, 2008
I played a little more poker last night and decided to vary my game play. At first I started out on Cake Poker playing a regular cash game. Once again I started with $10. Unfortunately after about 25 hands in I made an aggressive play and pushed without making a hand yet. I had 2 over cards and the nut flush draw and I was against a slightly lower stack. They called and showed a single pair, which held up. Wham, down to $2.50 just like that. On a good note though, I played solid after that point and was able to build back up to $10.08 and that is when I decided to call it.
After my cash game, I loaded up Full Tilt and decided to play some… Read More

Doubled Up !

Friday, November 14th, 2008
My cash games are going quite well to this point. Today I was able to reach an important benchmark. Doubling Up !! I did this on my Cake Poker account as I was able to surpass the $20 mark. The strategy I have been using so far is to play short sessions and leave the table before risking my gains. This really shouldn't be neccesary but during this initial phase I'm too worried about risking the gains I get thus resulting in the current hit and run technique.
Finding the best table to play at is very beneficial, limits risk and has proven to be critically important during this initial stage of the challenge. So far I have been lucky to find… Read More

Combo Play

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Today I played at both Full Tilt and Cake Poker. I remember when I first started playing online and thinking how daunting it was to think of playing more than 1 table at once. With practice though, it becomes quite manageable. The most I have ever played is 6 cash games at once. The judgment is still out for me whether this is the way to go or just play 1 or 2 tables for increased focus.
Obviously my current bankroll does not afford me a lot of luxury to play on multiple tables within a single site yet but in time, more options will become available as the bankroll grows.
Today's play was fairly flat with modest gains on both sites.… Read More

How I Play…

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
Today I created a new page that documents the general rules I use to play online poker. Take a look here.
My play today was at the other site I like to play at, Cake Poker. Once again I started with $10 as part of the challenge. By challenging multiple sites, it should provide a good indicator as to the difficulty of the sites.
I played 91 hands and was playing solid poker with a slow increase in my stack until I was dealt the bullets. At this point I had $18.50 sitting in front of me. Well the tempting slow play move… Read More

The Game Is Afoot…

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
I decided to start out my challenge using my existing Full Tilt Poker account. I managed to get in 33 hands before I decided to wrap it up for the night.

My game of choice was a single table $0.05/$0.10 no-limit six person game. The maximum buy in is $10. Perfect!

I thought I might have a quick win when just a couple hands in I went all in with AK suited against A7 unsuited pre-flop. Well a 7 hit on the flop and down I went. I now had $4.50 to play with. Hmmmm!

My luck turned around though as I had a pair of 9s and went all in pre-flop and got called by K10 suited. 9 comes on the flop and I was back in it with $8.55. A couple… Read More

It Has Begun !!

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Here is my first post to Poker Dreams Online. As you may have determined from the heading above, this blog is about turning $10 into $100 and then into $1000 and then (with a little luck) even more. How will I do this? Well, as online poker experience has taught me, with discipline.   The basic rules I have set for myself are:
  1. Pick a poker site and set a bankroll of $10.
  2. Start off by playing cash games and playing the lowest limits where my bankroll will be the maximum allowed.
  3. Do not play at higher stakes until my bankroll is large enough to pay for the max buy in at the higher limit plus maintaining the max buy in… Read More
