First Hand Special
Every once in a while, the stars align and your granted with the First Hand Special!
I was feeling really tired today but wanted to get a few cash games in to try and get the challenge bankroll up. So far, the $10 Challenge has proven to be a slow climb requiring quite a few hands to get those small gains. This is what I expect so I have no problem grinding it out at a slow steady pace. But then, there it was … a First Hand Special. The very first cards dealt end up being a pot buster. Here is how it happened for me today:
My plan was to play a $0.10/$0.20 9 man cash game accompanied by 2 $0.05/$0.10 9 man cash games at Cake Poker (my new winning formula). The first seat to open up was on the higher limit game. To start, I put in my $0.20 blind 1 back from the button. Joining me were the 2 blinds who both called. Hands are dealt and I got KQo. Not to shabby. The play goes check check to me and then I bet $0.70. Small folds but big blind calls.
Here comes the flop ….
King King 10. YES !! I hit a monster. The blind checks to me and I bet half the pot, $0.80. He calls. I’m thinking this is going to go really well or really bad.
… and now the turn …
QUEEN !!! I couldn’t believe it! Now all I’m thinking is how to get him to commit. I bet half the pot again, $1.60. He raises to $3.20. WOW this is awesome. I re-raise to $5.40. He goes all in. JACKPOT!! The pot is now over $20.00. I call and we flip. My KQ full house against his AK three of a kind. Now I am chanting No Ace!, No Ace!
… and the river is …
An 8! SWEEEET! First Hand Special.
I get a couple more hands for free before the blinds hit and end up leaving after 4 hands. No need to play the other tables as the sleepiness is kicking in so I shut it down and walked away with one of my best days so far which took only a couple minutes.
